Domestic Violence Prevention Events
Domestic violence, which refers to any kind of violence in the home or between couples or within families, is a serious problem that many are working hard to stop. Because of this, there are many wonderful domestic violence prevention events going on all the time, and those who are interested in helping are encouraged to get involved and to work toward domestic violence prevention.
The most common time for major events to be hosted is during National Domestic Violence Month, also known as domestic violence awareness month and domestic violence prevention month. October of each year marks this special month when people gear up and work even harder for domestic violence awareness and violence prevention.
Common events include walks and other fundraisers for domestic violence prevention programs, recruiting of volunteers for domestic violence hotline organizations, and other involvement in human services. Also, during this month, those that have a history of domestic violence, either as an abuser, a victim, or a witness to abuse are encouraged to step forward and seek counseling or other help. This is one of the best ways to aid in future prevention of domestic violence.
Since such events are held all throughout the year and in all different states in the United States, individuals are encouraged to check with their local domestic violence organization for events in their areas in which they can get involved. Remember that domestic violence prevention and awareness should be a focus all year long, not just during one particular month.
Those who live overseas should know that there are many international domestic violence organizations that host events as well. While the domestic violence prevention month will vary depending upon the country of residence, there are always opportunities to get involved and to make change happen so that people everywhere can enjoy safer, happier lives and relationships.
